Tonight, Congressman Tom O'Halleran (AZ-01) voted to pass H.R. 6968, the Suspending Energy Imports from Russia Act, legislation to impose further sanctions on Russia and Vladimir Putin following a Russian invasion that has already claimed the lives of hundreds of Ukrainian civilians and thousands of soldiers.

In concert with White House actions this week, the legislation will

ban the import of Russian oil and energy products into the United States;
reauthorize and strengthen the Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act so that the United States can impose further sanctions on Russia; and
take steps to review Russia's access to the World Trade Organization and explore how the United States can further isolate Russia from the international community and hamstring their participation in the global economy.
"Putin's illegal war has forced millions out of their homes and country, thrown the global economy and the stability of eastern Europe into chaos, and has already taken the lives of Ukrainian women and children. Here in the United States, we will continue to impose the harshest possible sanctions and work to pressure Putin to end this unjust war," said O'Halleran. "Today, Congress and the president are sending a strong message to Vladimir Putin: we are watching, and these actions will not go unpunished."

To combat rising prices, last month, O'Halleran introduced the Gas Prices Relief Act, which would suspend the gas tax for the remainder of the year and provide needed relief to families and workers.

This week, O'Halleran spoke in a House Energy and Commerce Committee hearing on energy independence in the United States. View his remarks and questions HERE.
